John Calvin:
- Lived in Rome
- Calvin was the founder of the predestination doctrine, which was that God determined who was going to Hell and who was going to Heaven way before that person was even born. This was used to embolden and scare people. Many people thought that living a very spiritual life would imply that they were destined to go to Heaven
- Calvin learned a lot from Luther, however he was much stricter and radical.
- Under his society and religion, you could only participate in spiritual activities, everything else was censored. No drinking alcohol, no reading books that weren't approved, etc.
- Like Luther, he sought salvation through intense theological study
- Wrote: Institutes of the Christian Religion: where he writes that those who want salvation should be led there through salvation.
